Children need homes, not ethnic politics
Article Abstract:
County officials in Hennepin, MN, have been actively blocking transracial adoptions on the basis of a policy espoused by the National Assn of Black Social Workers in 1975. The state's Minority Preservation Act which directs that relatives and same race families should be given preference in processing children for adoption, has been used as the legal basis for imposing same-race adoption policies. The NAACP has been involved in countering this policy because it is segregationist. Moreover, NAACP believes that transracial adoption would provide children with a better environment than foster homes.
