From trust to political power: interest groups, public choice and health care
Article Abstract:
Arrow's concept of a dyadic form of trust as failing to consider the negative social consequences of trust in physicians is discussed. Managed care plans as just another interest group despite their never having had the trust and campaign resources which organized medicine did in earlier times is another topic.

The author discusses a US Supreme Court ruling on accountability by managed care health maintenance organizations and medical malpractice. Political and legal forces underlying the dispute over accountability are analyzed.
