China's WTO ascencion: commitments and prospects
Article Abstract:
The notion of many observers that China's delayed entry to the World Trade Organization is a ploy by the international community to force the country to effect economic reforms has no solid basis. China's decision to effect market reforms, such as its decision to partially liberalize the banking and financial services industry, the sale of state-owned enterprises, and opening up its foreign trade sector, comes from the recognition of the Chinese leadership of the country's growing prominence in the economic arena, as well as the capability of its economy to absorb such reforms. China's growing industrial capability has increased its foreign exchange reserves, which enables the economy to absorb the fluctuations in the exchange rate thereby shielding the country's productivity base.

Regionalism, competition policy and abuse of dominant position
Article Abstract:
A case for a regional approach to competition policy, particularly in the case of deep forms of regional integration including customs unions, exist. International trade liberalisation inside regional blocs permits economies of scale and the transformation of the internal market which impels inefficient companies to egress the market. As a result, a more concentrated market structure that is consistent with efficiency and welfare gains emerge.
