Clinton ends 20-year ban on high-tech arms to Latin America
Article Abstract:
The administration of Pres. Bill Clinton has voided a 20-year policy of restricting transfers of advanced weapons to Latin America on Aug. 1, 1997. Such weapons included combat aircraft, for example. The administration is in favor of adopting a more lenient policy of evaluating sales on a case-to-case basis. The overall response from Latin America to Clinton's action was one of skepticism and criticism.
