Computers and Small Local Governments: Uses and Users
Article Abstract:
Local governments of almost any size use computers today. However, small rural governments have been slow to adopt computers. Financial condition of a government seems unimportant to the use of a computer. Most of the in-house computer systems found by researchers were microcomputers. The study showed most systems purchased by small governments were the manufacturers most recent models. Most systems were used primarily for financial management.

Local Government Microcomputer Information Systems
Article Abstract:
The cost of microcomputers allows local government to be more efficient. Microcomputers and mainframe improvements can enhance operating departments' management information systems. Microcomputers provide information to all levels of government. Effectiveness can be achieved through the improvement of middle management. This requires improvement of the information system through computing.

Office Automation: A Local Government Perspective
Article Abstract:
Long Beach, California has invested significantly in office technology. The city developed a plan before it proceeded to buy the equipment. They instituted a pilot program to evaluate the consequences. As a result they expanded their initial plan. The results of the plan determined that a top-down implementation approach works well.
