Considerations of equity and international environmental institutions
Article Abstract:
International environmental institutions have been formed to protect the global environment and prevent violent conflict arising from environmental degradation. However, for these institutions to perform effectively, they must address the issue of international equity, or the fair and just distribution among countries of benefits, costs and decision-making authority, with special consideration being given to poorer countries. Once international equity considerations come into play, less global pollution and less suffering among the world's poor will go hand in hand.

The Irish Environmental Protection Agency: the early years
Article Abstract:

Safeguarding environmental interests as a politically independent organization and taking care of the numerous directives from Europe was also within the duties of the EPA. However, the EPA is accused of political maneuverability.

Conserving the Emerald Tiger: the politics of environmental regulation in Ireland
Article Abstract:
The role of Ireland's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an agent of economic change without damaging the country's environment has been re-examined. The EPA was established in 1992 to replace the rigid bureaucracy of various public agencies involved in environmental regulation with a new flexible, integrated and transparent organization. The study finds that the EPA was created not merely to protect the environment of Ireland but more importantly as a way to restructure and depoliticize the environmental policy domain.
