Odessa branch of NAACP wins environmental justice case in Texas
Article Abstract:
The environmental justice movement in Odessa, TX, has won the case against three big companies charged with air pollution of a black and Hispanic community in South Odessa. The industries, which include Dynagen, a rubber-making company, Rexene and Shell Oil petrochemical manufacturers, have agreed to pay the complainants for damages. Though the life and health of sufferers of illnesses such as asthma, headaches, and cancers cannot be restored with the sum, the victory provides an encouragement for other similarly affected communities.
