'The Emperor of the Air' a novel published in London in 1910, which describes the destruction of Wall Street by an airship piloted by of group of European aerial anarchists sheds key delusions of the twenty-first century. The fiction brings out the fact that the world has lived through may periods of fear, and has survived due to the measures that have included not only tough police and other counter-terrorist action, but also the perennial failure deeply flawed terrorist belief that a spectacular violence can mobilize masses and change world history according to a particular plan.
