Debalkanize the Balkans
Article Abstract:
George Papandreou, the foreign minister of Greece, believes that European nations must give their full support to the Serbian people in their attempt to gain stability, security and democracy. There should be a coordinated international effort to support cooperation within the different Balkan groups, and to empower the region as a whole.

The former president of France, Valery Giscard d'Estaing, discussed the worrying Austrian election result but quoted the Amsterdam treaty which states that Europe cannot interfere in domestic issues. The potential admission of Turkey to the EU, European defense issues and the euro were also raised.

Why Asia's Balkans are at peace
Article Abstract:
Southeastern Asia is at peace in spite of its troubled history because its security is no longer attached to European concerns. A joint approach to regional security based on Asian values has replaced linkage to Europe.
