Equilibrium: a rediscovered basis for the Court of Justice of the European Communities to refuse direct effect to the Uruguay Round Agreements?
Article Abstract:
The Court of Justice of the EC (CJEC) rendered a new judgment refusing to grant direct effect to GATT regulations relying on the landmark International Fruit Co. case. The Uruguay Round Agreements have already scrapped several arguments relied on by the Court to deny direct effect to GATT provisions. Equilibrium could be pointed to as a basis for the CJEC to limit the effects of the Uruguay Round Agreements within the Community legal order in the future.

Trade-related aspects of international taxation: a new WTO Code of conduct?
Article Abstract:
International taxes will likely become a major issue for the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the future, as such taxes could be used as trade barriers, replacing more traditional barriers that have become more heavily regulated in the international community. The WTO has been vigilant in dealing with unfair trade practices involving taxation, despite a lack of clear authority in such matters. Implications of this trend are discussed.

Long term trends in West German trade, direct investment and aid: an inquiry into third-world diversification and African marginalisation
Article Abstract:
The unification of Germany, and the upcoming implementation of the European Free Trade Agreement have resulted in a reduction of German investment and assistance to developing countries, Africa in particular. German investments have been growing in the US and the newly industrializing countries of Asia. The Official Development Agency, Germany's international assistance body, has not compensated for the changes by increased funding.
