Article Abstract:
The standoff between Russia and Georgia is mainly due to Georgia's tilt to the West and the implications for managing Moscow. The doubling of the price of gas Russia sells to Georgia, including the banning of Georgian imports into Russia, especially the fabled wine and mineral water, the cutting of transport, telecommunications and postal links, are some of the main reasons for the emerging cold war between the two countries.

A brief description on the latest violence in Uzbekistan that has resulted in the greater instant mass murder in the former Soviet Union than any incident is presented. Uzbekistan has the largest and the best-equipped army and Ministry of Interior troops of all central Asian states.
