Reassessing the revolutions of 1989
Article Abstract:
The revolutions of 1989 that overthrew the communist regimes of Eastern and Central Europe represent a victory of individual freedom over state tyranny and ideological monism. This victory is authentic despite claims by critics that the revolutions only succeeded in giving birth to ambiguous legacies. That criticism misses the point by de-emphasizing the message of the revolutions, that is, civic activism and democratic participation can bring about the triumph of political morality.

The end of postcommunism in Romania
Article Abstract:
The communists had faced a failure in the elections for the year 2004, which had ruled Romania for most of the period after the fall of communism. An attempt is made to understand whether the country's new, democratic, and pro-European government would be able to split the semi-authoritarian habits of the postcommunist predecessors.
