From the political to the objective: the dialectics of Zionism and the environment
Article Abstract:
Three phases of the relationship between Zionism and environment are analysed to explore the objective concept of the environment. The developmental and romantic attitudes toward the environment considers the latter instrumentally and both include political interpretations of the environment. A direct shift from a romantic-ruralist attitude to a scientifically based environmentalism is impossible at least in Israel. The instrumental and political approach to the environment is to be abandoned and a real relation with the environment is necessary due to anti-thesis of the ethos of development.

A political sociology of socionatures: Revisionist manoeuvres in environmental sociology
Article Abstract:
Study focuses on three recent bodies of literature notably the sociology of environmental science, critical political ecology/new ecology, production of nature and hybridity narratives and the rise of more qualified versions of the ecological modernisation thesis. All these literatures point increasingly to the messy complexities surrounding the contemporary environmental debate and the capital/ecology relationship.

The halfway house: Democracy, complexity, and the limits to markets in green political economy
Article Abstract:
The Austrian school of economists argues that the complexity of modern society poses a challenge to democracy, thus making markets essential. On the other hand, the dominant paradigm in green political economy proposes a 'halfway house' combination of markets with democratic, non-market institutions to ensure environmental stability.
