Globalisation and deforestation in the Asia-Pacific
Article Abstract:
The role of global environmentalism on commercial logging in the Asia-Pacific region has been examined. It has been noted that the spread of environmental ideas have led governments all over the world to change their environmental policies and adopt a stronger environmental rhetoric. However, the study finds that there has been a dearth of concrete changes in the management of tropical forests in the Asia-Pacific region. Timber companies, the nature of the timber trade chain and international markets are behind the reluctance of Asia-Pacific states to revise their forest management policies.

French ecosocialism: from utopia to contract
Article Abstract:
Several personalities in the French political ecology movement have espoused the concept of ecosocialism. Rene Dumont and Andre Gorz pioneered the efforts during the 1970s while Pierre Juquin and Felix Guattari advocated relativist ecosocialism during the 1980s. The most recent efforts made by Paul Deleage and Alan Lipietz dealt with a contractual form of ecosocialism that is committed to an egalitarian pluralism.

French nuclear testing in the Pacific: a retrospective
Article Abstract:
France continued with its nuclear weapons testing programme in the South Pacific during Jun 1997 despite being involved in international talks to set up a comprehensive test ban treaty (CTBT). Ecologists are assessing how much impact the region's marine environment has sustained through radiation leakage during testing. The CTBT programme has lost credibility since France's defiant action.
