House seeks to limit space cooperation with China
Article Abstract:
The House of Representatives approved four amendments on May 22, 1998 which threatens space cooperation between the US and China. The US is attempting to change China's missile proliferation activities by offering opportunities to launch US satellites. However, the amendments would halt space cooperation, ban exports of commercial satellites to China and prevent US participation in technical reviews of failed Chinese satellites.

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is to meet Chinese leaders in Beijing amid rising concern in Washington about missile proliferation in Asia and Chinese espionage in the US. She is expected to reassure Beijing about missile defense plans and urge China to join the Missile Technology control Regime (MTCR). China has shown alarm at the administration's interest in deploying theater missile defenses (TMD) in East Aisa.
