International borders: What they are, what they mean, and why we should care
Article Abstract:
Borders are significant even in 21st century's post-Cold War world of growing democracy interdependence and globalization as they continue to serve a wide variety of functions across the areas of security, economics, politics and social interactions. Borders define areas of legal competence, cover territoriality necessary to the concept of the nation, provide key factor in the structure of the global system and both facilitate and restrain human interaction in conflict and trade in war and peace.
