Iran's 'virtual democracy' at a turning point
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the political and social changes in Iran since the election of Mohammad Khatami in 1997, reviewing his record on domestic policy, foreign relations, and economic policy. The author views Iran as a 'virtual democracy' in which power lays in the hands of a vice-regent who administers the will of God, while the parliament and the president carries out the will of the people.

Resistance and resilience: reflections on Iran
Article Abstract:
The reforms proposed by Iranian President Mohammed Khatami have largely failed to materialize. A photographic essay is presented which displays some of the challenges that the Iranian people face and depicts how they are dealing with them.
