Is the WTO open and transparent?
Article Abstract:
The involvement and participation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the work of the World Trade Organization (WTO) is a manifestation of the WTO's attempt to increase transparency and public participation in the dispute settlement mechanism. NGO participation in the WTO is deemed beneficial in terms of information dissemination at the national level. This function of NGOs is crucial to the WTO in drawing public support for trade liberalization. However, questions remain on the NGOs legitimacy in representing public interest.

US restrictions on exports of cryptographic equipment and software
Article Abstract:
There are comprehensive legal restrictions in the US for exports of military products, commercial products and technology. The continued restriction of the government of exports of equipment and software that use cryptography has generated a lot of controversy, with most of the debate focusing on software products used to encrypt computer databases and electronic communications. The eventual solution to this issue might be found in the government's role as a purchaser rather than regulator.

Regional integration and trade liberalization in Africa: the treaty for the establishment of an African Economic Community revisited in the context of the WTO system
Article Abstract:
The treaty that established the African Economic Community (AEC) on Jun 3, 1991, did not take into account the lack of true integration among African nations. Thus, its objective of continental integration for African economies is way beyond what is achievable, given that Africa has no history of regional or sub-regional economic integration. The AEC's efforts would have been more realistic if its framework concentrated on programs that would strengthen regional integration.
