The Black Radical Congress and Black Feminist organizing
Article Abstract:
The Black Radical Congress (BRC) began with a belief that a new kind of formation was necessary to organize people of African descent for a revolutionary change, so as to be able to move from old ideas of vanguardism and centralism to ideas of self-organization and self-mobilization. African American feminists organization started with a knowledge base and experiences of community members and challenged the male-centered humanists by integrating gendered analysis to race consciousness.

A generation of African Americans who lived in the Bronx in the early 1950's at a time when public housing was a symbol of hope are interviewed and their experiences are compared with their childrenEs'. In the 1960's the Bronx was a place ruled by fear due to heroin and the Hip Hop movement was born in protest.
