The Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, known for its anti-immigration stance, has significantly compounded an already sensitive and volatile situation by publishing the prophet Mohammed in a mocking and irreverent way in September 2005. At risk are relations between Muslim communities and host countries in Western Europe and between Muslim world and the west in general.

The Egyptian government is offering either secularists or Islamists free and fair elections and restricting a stipulation that a potential candidate needs the backing of at least 65 members of parliament. Opposition party at the May 2005 elections in Egypt argued that President Hosni Mubarak's proposed law was designed to exclude independent candidates.
