Marxian microfoundations: Contribution or detour?
Article Abstract:
A twenty-five-year productive yet highly controversial Marxian theoretical and philosophical development of Marxian microfoundations (MM) movement that dates from the late 1970s and early 1980s is explored. The MM literature has made significant contributions to strengthening Marxian arguments/propositions by providing improvement in the areas of integrating existing MM with common themes, improving modeling techniques, developing better linkages between micro and macro behaviors, expanding the analysis to neglected topics and empirically verifying underlying assumptions.

The empirical relevance of the cyclical profit squeeze: a reassertion
Article Abstract:
Previous empirical studies on cyclical profit squeeze (CPS) contain methodological flaws concerning problematic accounting decompositions, misspecifications of CPS and secular profit squeeze relations and approach to anomalies. These flaws are addressed through a proposed estimation framework of the importance of CPS. The alternative estimates are based on the approaches used in previous studies and on structural time series models. The framework is effective in justifying the relevance of CPS despite the influence of secular trends.

The rhetoric of Marxian microfoundations
Article Abstract:
Marxist theory is criticized as being overly preoccupied with holistic and functionalistic considerations and for failing to account for micro-foundational or individual behavior. Neo-Marxists propose the establishment of a micro-foundational basis by incorporating variables such as individual choice, freedom and agency to Marx's original philosophy. Such an an approach may be attractive, but close scrutiny reveals that is is not valid.
