Mr. Yen looks at the Asian crisis
Article Abstract:
Many foreign analysts have mistaken the Asia's financial condition as melting down. There is no economic meltdown, rather, a flight of foreign capital from Asian markets. The Asian crisis was caused primarily by huge capital inflows to Asian markets from 1993 to 1994. This caused a frenzy among foreign investors which resulted in reckless lending and reckless borrowing among Asian businesses. Japan is basically a net lender and not a borrower. Funds from most Japanese lending institutions have been drained and cannot afford to lend anymore to help East Asian economies.

Does Islam have an alternative to globalization?
Article Abstract:
Munawar Anees believes that Islam should not be construed as a handicap to political and economic development. Malaysia has managed to survive globalization and has even emerged as one of the its stalwarts in the East Asian region. Malaysian politics has managed to gain flexibility by avoiding to label itself as an Islamic state, although the country is predominantly Muslim. This allows Malaysians to conduct business and formulate policies in a secular manner to afford more openness and integrity when dealing with the rest of the global community.

Islam is the answer to Indonesia's crisis
Article Abstract:
Habib Chirzin, a ranking member of Indonesia's Muhammadiyah Islamic Organization, believes that the philosophy of Islam is the key to reviving the Indonesian economy. This is the reason why Muhammadiyah is active in politics, relying on a grassroots approach to help reduce poverty and suffering and offering social services through its schools and medical clinics. The organization is also preaching an economy based on social justice and devoid of cronyism and corruption.
