Of rights and duties: a Jeffersonian dialogue
Article Abstract:
Lino A. Graglia's criticism that Thomas Jefferson's concept of rights leads to an overuse of rights at the cost of duty is unwarranted. The criticism arises out of overlooking Jefferson's concept of duty, on which he bases his conception of rights. Jefferson views rights as a means to allow others to do their duties. Duty entails sacrifices, restraint and respect for the equal rights of others. Religious tolerance, adherence to a system of natural rights and honoring promises are areas of duty. Graglia's five questions regarding rights and duties are discussed.

Mobilising Earth First! in Britain
Article Abstract:
It is important to consider the political and economic factors that have affected the emergence of the Earth First! radical green network in the UK. The emergence and development of Earth First! confirm the significance of pre-existing networks in encouraging mobilization, as Earth First! used existing movement networks to deal with the problems created by its lack of resources. Other specifically economic factors assisted mobilization, including large-scale construction projects, which acted as focal points for the mobilization of various demands.
