Providing high quality mediation: insights from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service
Article Abstract:
The factors that determine the effectiveness of a mediator in resolving conflict arising from human relations were examined by investigating the knowledge, skills and abilities of mediators in public sector labor relations. The study was centered on the main competencies requirements for mediators employed by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The primary competencies include expertise in collective bargaining and labor management relations, capability to assist in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, and knowledge of the processes involved in labor management relations.
