Rethinking the European Union II: Sweden and the CAP
Article Abstract:
Sweden decided to join the European Union after making extensive reforms in its agricultural policy. The Swedish agricultural policy before the reform was almost same as the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), and can serve as a model. Agriculture had been heavily subsidized and the benefits were cornered by the rich farmers to the disadvantage of the poor ones. This prompted the reform process and the deregulation of the agricultural sector with the phasing out of the subsidies. The CAP reforms will make positive contributions to the development of agriculture in developing countries.

From the Atlantic to the Urals? Russia - an apathetic European
Article Abstract:
Russia's ignorance of and lack of interest in the European Union influences its involvement in the region. Russia fails to take into account the importance of the European Union, the development of a global economic system, and the effectiveness of international communication systems when considering national and international policy. In addition, Western Europe is viewed by Russia as hostile, and the idea of common European values is not widely accepted in Russia.
