Russell Kirk: a life worth living
Article Abstract:
Russel Kirk's reputation as a distinguished scholar was increased with 'The Sword of Imagination: Memoirs of a Half-Century of Literary Conflict,' published posthumously. The memoir is a worthy successor to his much acclaimed 'The Conservative Mind,' which earned him the berth of a prominent literary figure. The turning point in his life was the time spent at St. Andrews, Scotland's oldest university, under the guidance of scholar George Scott-Moncrieff. Kirk was born in 1918 in Plymouth, Michigan, and died in 1994 in Mecosta.

Living in interesting times
Article Abstract:
Chatham House's International Economics Programme has for a long time been known for research on economic matters and faces the challenge of showing formerly socialist countries how to build free-market economies. Another challenge lies in devising ways free markets can keep from being overwhelmed by environmental and social costs. The International Economics Programme hopes to meet these challenges and stay at the forefront of the international economics debate.

Tense times for the Koreas
Article Abstract:
South Korea will elect a new National Assembly in Apr 1996. The campaign has been underway since the ruling Democratic Liberal Party was severely defeated in local elections in 1995. The political situation in the country is rife with corruption and treason. Some fear that North Korea will think this time of political uncertainty a good time to try to exploit its South Korean neighbor.
