Russia and America at mid-transition
Article Abstract:
The US Ambassador to the Russian Federation believes that the US and the West must continue to support Russia during its difficult transition period and help it emerge as a globally integrated democracy with a free market economy. Despite certain anti-Western and nationalist trends in Russia's foreign and domestic policies, the US and its allies, in view of Russia's serious socio-economic problems, must encourage it to persist with the reform process. US policy toward Russia has encouraged the latter to develop policies consistent with the three elements of US foreign policy; free markets, global integration and democracy.

United States foreign policy after the Soviet collapse
Article Abstract:
The political developments in the Soviet Union after the Revolution of 1917 have been conducive to the US. This advantage can be lasting only if the US and its allies continue to exploit the changing world political scenario. The attitude of the US and its allies to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is not definite. If the policy toward the CIS is not made clear, the US may repeat the mistake made in the first few decades when it was unable to contain Lenin's communist ideology in Russia.

The United States, Japan, and the future of Russia
Article Abstract:
America is analyzing its relations with its NATO allies and the former Soviet Union in a new global context after the disintegration of the USSR. International diplomatic efforts by the US and the West must involve Japan. The relation between Japan and the US should extend beyond the narrow confines of trade.
