The Asian economic crisis - its origins and the way out
Article Abstract:
The International Monetary Fund's (IMF) initial prescriptions for Asian economic recovery, which were announced in the latter part of 1997, have failed and have resulted in widespread panic in the financially troubled countries. However, the IMF is working on restoring confidence in the region. On the part of the Asian countries composed of the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea and Indonesia, the road to recovery will be greatly increased if monetary and financial policies will be improved. It will also help to focus on the recapitalization of the financial sector.

What the market can do, and what it cannot
Article Abstract:
Analysts believe that the Asian financial crisis was caused by the lack of adequate banking regulations during times of high growth and enormous capital inflows. Markets should not be considered as perfect in terms of its correspondence with reality. Markets are best regulated by adopting a policy of high transparency, so as not to inhibit the flow of capital and still encourage self-regulation among its members.
