Affirmative action and economics: a framework for analysis
Article Abstract:
Affirmative action (AA) programs were designed to bring in those who have been excluded from the workforce, specifically African Americans and women. The AA has been designed primarily to address this discrepancy. Although some researchers claim that AA has been efficacious, its effect is, in reality, difficult to quantify. This difficulty is due to several factors and one of the most important is inadequate comprehension of the policy. However, AA does need to be reformed as there are other underlying factors that affect its efficacy, one such factor is educational opportunity.

Racism, community, and democracy: the ethics of affirmative action
Article Abstract:
Affirmative action (AA) is a policy or program in which greater numbers of protected-class individuals are hired, promoted, or admitted. Although the spirit of individualism seems to be at the heart of American cultural tradition, the late 1990s individual is remembering the need for community. The AA ethics is based on this spirit of communitarian political philosophy, a belief that people can again live in communities, that it is possible for individuals to commit themselves to the community without having to be austere, altruistic, or self-sacrificing.
