The drama of democratization
Article Abstract:
It can be argued that making reference to a theatrical analogy is the best way of making sense of the complex dynamics, interactions and agendas that are typical of democratic transitions. Each transition complies with the logic of a public dramatic performane. It begins at a clearly defined point, contains much complex narrative in a limit timescale and then reaches a point of resolution that reflects the significance of what went before. The theatrical metaphor should be followed in a way that takes account of the concerns of both history and political science.

Geography and democratic destiny
Article Abstract:
Geography affects political destiny and this is certainly the case in Eastern and Central Europe. Geopolitics has cast a significant influence over the region's political development that until recently democratic aspirations have been vetoed down. Nonetheless, the events since 1989 have shown that political inventiveness can override the effects of geopolitics on a nation's political future.
