The dynamics of popular reactions to democratization in Korea
Article Abstract:
It is argued that Koreans have acquired their support for democratic processes incrementally through experience with the consequences of regime change rather than simply absorbing democratic values diffusively. Thus, an empirical model is proposed to account for this phenomenon that differentiates between the desirability of democracy as an ideal and the suitability of democracy perceived as a viable political system. Results and implications of the analysis are discussed.

How democracies control the military
Article Abstract:
Both developing and established democracies must have effective processes in place to control the military. Successful democratization can only be achieved if domineering military powers in former autocracies are curbed by national security policy. Effective governing rules within military organizations are essential for clear role definition within society.
