The neoliberal state, environmental pragmatism and its discontents

Methodological approaches to the environment such as contemporary environmental pragmatism are advocated since 'ethics' tends to limit itself to the self-regulation of individuals. Pollution, over-use of natural resources, population increases and global climate change are challenges which can be met with environmental pragmatism which has positioned itself as the voice of reason.

The development of a post-ecologist approach in Denmark with the help citizen participation in the environmental issues is discussed. The Danish approach towards a harmonious relationship between democracy and sustainable development is a liberalist and inclusive process that concentrates on a successful eco-political transformation.

Symbolic environmental legislation and societal self-deception
Article Abstract:
The failure of symbolic legislation in tackling environmental problems in spite of many eco-political achievements is mainly due to lack of public interest in the environmental problems. The societal self-deception is responsible for the manipulative nature of symbolic legislation.
