The transnistrian dilemma
Article Abstract:
Rhode Island-sized Transnistria has emerged as a major source of legal and illegal weapons for conflict zones in former Communist bloc and the Middle East and a key transit point for narcotics, contraband, and human trafficking. Despite the lack of international recognition, Transnistria has developed a functioning government, competent law enforcement organs, an army, an educating system, passports, and its own currency.

Kaliningrad, adrift in Europe
Article Abstract:
Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave bordered by Lithuania and Poland, both members of the European Union, has become a passage port for numerous illegal activities. Statistics show that the crime rate in the region is 20 percent higher than in city, fomenting corruption and undermining economic performance.
