Issues are discussed regarding the need for health plans to address some truly legitimate consumer concerns and the public need for knowledgeable intermediaries to spread a better understanding of the value of lower health care costs and managed care's role in this regard.

Managed care at the millennium: scenes from a maul
Article Abstract:
Several consumer protection initiatives which emerged in response to the managed care backlash are discussed. Included are legislation outlawing physician gag clauses, better access to emergency care, and mandated hospital stays following deliveries.
