Third party mediation: an obstacle to peace in Nagorno Karabakh
Article Abstract:
Nagorno Karabakh has experienced an undeclared war since 1992. The 1,700-sq-mile-region within Azerbaijan, whose Armenian population controls 20% of the territory of Azerbaijan, has long been disputed by Armenia and Azerbaijan. A political solution to its conflict remains elusive despite seven years of mediation efforts by various nations. These third-party mediation efforts, the rationale behind them and the motives and roles of the mediators are analyzed.
