UN peace-keeping in a new era: a new chance for peace
Article Abstract:
Many challenges face the United Nations (UN) in the post-Cold War era. The peace-keeping function goes hand in hand with the organization's functions in the area of economic development. Initiating peace-keeping efforts has been made easier by increased cooperation in the Security Council. Member states must strengthen the organization's financial ability to respond to conflicts more quickly. The peace-making function has assumed more comprehensive form in Cambodia, El Salvador and Somalia with various kinds of assistance after the initial conflict was over.

No peace, no majority
Article Abstract:
This article discusses attempts, as of October 2000, by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak to form a coalition within his government, pointing out that he favored the peace coalition over the civic, yet one year after his election his strategy has completely failed. While Barak failed to reach an agreement for peace, he also conceded too much, according to his detractors; attempts had been made to focus on developing a new domestic policy, which was felt to be unlikely to pass due to Barak's lack of support in parliament.
