Cuban Pres. Fidel Castro still believes in socialism's capacity to enhance social solidarity. He states that the collapse of socialism in some nations does not make a failure of this political system. He continues to pursue the preservation of Cuban independence, sovereignty and social justice.

The growth of innovations in the industry has resulted a decrease in the demand for educated workers due to the user-friendliness of machines. However, political leaders are thinking that the country's educational base for workers should be widened.

The human rights aspects of the war in Yugoslavia are discussed. Humanitarians may have rejected the bombings but the need to halt ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, despite having not intervened in Rwanda, is discussed.
