Waiting for Godot: wishes and worries in managed care
Article Abstract:
The situation of managed care's failures at improving medical care quality outweighing its success at controlling medical care costs is analyzed. Relatively modest public policy changes can respond to consumer worries about health care and lead to better health care quality.

Arrow's concept of the health care consumer: a forty-year retrospective
Article Abstract:
Changes in the health care industry since Kenneth J. Arrow's 1963 article are discussed and include the increase in medical malpractice suits and the associated doctrine of informed consent, the spread of managed care, and direct-to-consumer medical advertising.
