Adolescent participation in the U.K. National Lottery Games
Article Abstract:
Studies have showed that young people enjoy participating in games of chance, but other studies are concerned that such exposure could lead children on to pathological gambling activities. The prevalence of underage participation in the National Lottery games was examined and the impact of government backed advertising, household participation and unrestricted availability was investigated. Some 56% of those surveyed had taken part in the National Lottery on-line game, with 54% participating in the National Lottery Instants scratchcards. The best predictors of participation were found to be income, household participation, if the TV show was watched and if a child had been refused a lottery ticket by a retailer.
