Adolescents' perceptions of their parents' disclosure to them
Article Abstract:
A survey, conducted amongst 144 American first-year college students, examined young people's perception of their parents self-disclosure to them. The study examined the amount of disclosure on 30 topics of adult concern, and the perception of motivation for disclosure. The findings supported the hypothesis that mothers discuss more personal subjects than fathers discuss, and that they discuss them in more depth. The students perceived their mothers' motivations for disclosure to be for emotional support and advice, and their fathers' motivation to be education. The findings differ from those obtained in a survey of parents.

Family and social contexts of adolescent re-offenders
Article Abstract:
Most adolescent re-offenders come from disrupted families and a number of present and past factors are responsible for their behavior. A study of 74 randomly selected re-offenders, who are less than 16 years old, shows that most of them have financial problems. They are very sociable, and drug abuse and alcoholism are widespread. Most of them have good relations with their mothers despite a disturbed family environment. Most of the re-offenders do not commit sexual or violent crimes.

Parental attachment and identity in Portuguese late adolescents
Article Abstract:
The relationship between attachment and identity was investigated in a sample of 361 Portuguese late adolescents. The results suggested gender differences in the association between attachment variables and identity foreclosure. Adolescents tended to report close emotional links with both parents, but relationships with mothers were particularly important in the tendency for foreclosure identity in boys.
