Participant perceptions of positive and negative influences on large-scale change
Article Abstract:
Perceptions of large-scale change efforts within organizations were researched by surveying internal and external consultants, managers, and researchers to determine the kinds of issues identified as negative or positive by people affected by organizational change. The 398 survey respondents identified more than 900 issues that affect change efforts. Some issues that have a positive impact on organizational change that respondents identified include: a reward system that supports needed changes; visible management commitment and support; and a high degree of communication. Some issues that have a negative impact on organizational change that respondents identified include: a lack of management support; inconsistent actions by key managers; and unrealistic expectations.

Responses to the alpha, beta, gamma change typology: cultural resistance to change
Article Abstract:
The academic response to Golembiewski, Billingsley, and Yeager's alpha, beta, gamma change typology is examined. Past research supports the validity of the model, but it still has not gained wide acceptance. Current results indicate that: there are strong arguments for multimethod change evaluations; no one method has been proven superior to others; and there are theory assimilation problems within the organizational development field.
