Adult obesity and functioning in the family of origin
Article Abstract:
The relationship between family functioning history and eating and weight behaviors was examined. The study tested the hypothesis that poor family functioning, as reflected by cohesion and adaptability, is related to elevated obesity, distorted eating attitudes, lack of control over eating, and earlier onset of feeling overweight. Cohesion and adaptability were found to affect the eating and weight characteristics of men, but not women.
