An evaluation of a family-centered cognitive skills program for prison inmates
Article Abstract:
A cognitive skills program centered on the family seems helpful to prisoners in increasing their capacities to identify and respond to problems constructively and to locate resources to help in problem-solving. Inmates at Utah State Program who completed a 10-week program of this nature gave it a positive rating. Both male and female inmates rated the class positively, although women's overall rating of the course was somewhat stronger. Men, however, experienced a greater increase between the preclass and postclass periods in the number of problems and responses identified. The program's structured diffused some of the negative feelings offenders often bring to prison.

The impact of mandatory relocation on female maximum security inmates
Article Abstract:
The anxiety and anger felt by female maximumn security prisoners required to move from one prison to another exemplifies the fact that environmental changes tend to be stressful events. Moreover, those prisoners who had such feelings prior to the move were often depressed afterwards. Those just anxious and focusing on the move beforehand tended to be angry afterwards. Those inmates studied were from the Lansing Correctional Facility in Lansing, KS.
