Assessing relationship standards: the inventory of specific relationship standards
Article Abstract:
A couple's relationship-focused standards have positive correlation with marital functioning. A study, based on the Inventory of Specific Relationships Standards (ISRS), finds that dimensions of boundaries, control-power, and investment affect marital life significantly. Partners' real standards highly correlate with the degree of marital adjustment. Differences of standards between spouses have a negative correlation with adjustment. Gender differences in responding to non-compliance of relationship standards exist. Women become more upset than men in such situations.

Cognitions in marriage: the relationship between standards and attributions
Article Abstract:
Negative attributional, emotional and behavioural responses to marital problems are associated with spouses' unmet standards and the level of intensity by which spouses respond to the failure. An assessment of relationship standards such as boundaries, distribution of power between partners, and demonstrated investment in the relationship endorses the finding. Levels of boundaries, power, and investment reflected in spouses' standards are unrelated to their attributions, emotions, and self-reported behavioral responses to relationship problems.
