Body size and parenting in eating disorders: a comparative study of the attitudes of mothers towards their children
Article Abstract:
A 1994 study of recovering eating disordered women and their child-raising skills and a control group of normal mothers showed that although both groups perceived the body weight of themselves and their infants accurately, the disordered women were more likely to raise children with emotional disorders. The women with eating disorders were much more likely to breastfeed their infants on a rigid schedule rather than on demand of the child, beginning a pattern of controlled eating habits.
