Body weight preoccupation in middle-age and ageing women: a general population survey
Article Abstract:
A random sample of 1,053 Swiss women aged 30 to 74 years were surveyed to determine the desired weights and dieting behavior of middle aged women and how these change with age. The findings revealed that a quarter of the sample were satisfied with their weight, while nearly three-fourths wanted to lose weight even though majority of them were of normal weight. Sixty-two percent of women above 65 years of age wanted to be thinner despite the fact that 65% of them were of normal weight.

The effect of attentional bias toward shape- and weight-related information on body dissatisfaction
Article Abstract:
The effect of attentional bias to shape- and weight-related information in terms of intensifying body dissatisfaction was examined by assessing female students who were exposed to a body image challenge. The results proved that attentional bias toward shape/weight-related information does play a casual role in body dissatisfaction, thus proposing that such biases might help target interventions designed to improve body image.
