The gender specificity of emotional, situational, and behavioral indicators of binge eating in a diet-seeking obese population
Article Abstract:
Men and women have certain correlates of binge eating severity in common, but there are also correlates that are distinctive for men and women. Among both men and women, binge eating can be prompted by failing on a diet and experiencing higher levels of depression. However, diet failure seems to be a more significant predictor of binge eating severity for women than for men. For women, binge eating is also linked with lower self-esteem, but this is not the case for men.
