Categorising farming values as economic, conservation and lifestyle

Article Abstract:

Degradation of land and water in Australia is a most important environmental, social, and economic issue. Economic instruments and common good interventions represent two broad policy genre that have been applied to induce change in on-farm land stewardship in response to the land and water issue. But both the policies have not completely targeted the state's response. A study sought to determine if the dichotomy between economic and common good could be found within the goals and objectives that farmers have for their landholdings is presented.

The social costs and benefits of urban consolidation: a time budget/contingent valuation approach

Article Abstract:

The attitudes of Australians on quality of life issues related to social costs and benefits of higher density housing policies were investigated. A sample of 100 households living in the Perth metropolitan area were selected to study four factors: location of dwelling, lot size, apparent density and socio-economic status. It was discovered that the Australian households, through their responses to quality of life indices, did not associate significant social costs to higher housing consolidation at moderate levels.
