Connecting invertebrate behavior, neurophysiology and evolution with Eshkol-Wachman movement notation
Article Abstract:
The Eshkol-Wachman movement notation movement presented by Ilan Golani is perceived to be an unambiguous language for describing behavior that takes into account the physical and biomechanical constraints imposed on movement. The combination of electromyographic studies with EW describes the combined effect of moter output together with all the biomechanical factors involving movement at the joints. The EW concept also has practical applications in that it provides data not only for storage but also for analysis of movement.

Why Eshkol-Wachman behavioral notation is not enough
Article Abstract:
A dissenting opinion was presented on the adequacy of the Eshkol-Wachman (EW) behavioral notation in describing the kinematic features of animal behavior. Despite the fact that the EW system provide similarities and differences between behaviors with respect to trunk orientation and freedom of movement, it is not the only basis for ethology. EW descriptions fall short of understanding the evolution and immediate causes of behavior and thus cannot replace all other means of describing animal behavior.

Dynamical systems theory and the mobility gradient: information, homology and self-similar structure
Article Abstract:
The mobility gradient presented by Ilan Golani showed that the concept relates to the limits of the rate at which information can be propagated by the central nervous system in the process of specifying a motor act. It was further shown that new motor abilities may be influenced by the increasing complexity of the patterns of motor activation that must occur to enable the animal to gear up the mobility gradient.
