Contributions of new research on juvenile delinquency to the prevention and treatment of antisocial behaviour: comment on Gorman-Smith et al. (1996)
Article Abstract:
Findings by D. Gorman-Smith, P.H. Tolan, A. Zelli, and L.R. Huesmann indicate that effective intervention in different social systems with by adolescent offenses is feasible. Family influences affect juvenile delinquency, and improving family atmosphere and parenting behavior can change the offending behavior of teenagers. These findings are helpful towards understanding different patterns of violent and nonviolent deviant behavior. This also helps in integrating developmental theories with vulnerability to delinquency, and to coordinate research and policy.

Family as crucible for violence: comment on Gorman-Smith et al. (1996)
Article Abstract:
D. Gorman-Smith, P.H. Tolan, A. Zelli, and L.R. Huesmann rightly conclude that family involvement and socialization processes are consistent over time and space as determinants of deviant behavior. The occurrence of violent behavior after 30 years of the predictions of a longitudinal study on adolescents provides evidence to the conclusions. Juvenile violence should be studied independently of other forms of violence usually associated with it. The development of a taxonomy of violence by researchers is desirable.

Meaning and measurement of family: comment on Gorman-Smith et al. (1996)
Article Abstract:
D. Gorman-Smith, P.H. Tolan, A. Zelli, and L.R. Huesmann suggest family interventions for prevention and treatment of juvenile delinquents but fail to specify the concept of family. The family may be a conglomeration of individuals with their own perspectives or a unique whole having attributes as a whole or both a collection of individuals and a whole. Specifying the target of assessment, method of the assessment and method of aggregation can have qualitative effect on family research.
